Spanish Colonial Revival Remodel

A full "down-to-the-studs" renovation of the kitchen, dining room, living room — plus a brand-new powder room.

 This was truly a dream project for Mike and Amy, a couple who had spent many years living with a drab, outdated kitchen while raising their children. Both passionate about entertaining and cooking — with Amy being a particularly talented chef — they had always dreamed of a space that would reflect their lifestyle and love for gatherings. They adored their Spanish Colonial Revival home and made the decision early on to wait until they could create a kitchen that honored the home’s historic charm. It took time, but the results were absolutely worth the wait.

Once they decided it was time, the project blossomed into a full-scale renovation. We stripped everything down to the studs, reconfigured the layout by moving walls, and modernized essential systems like electrical and plumbing. Along the way, we added a much-needed powder room and a convenient laundry area to better serve their busy lives. One of the standout features of the renovation is a stunning 10-foot panoramic door that now opens onto their spacious deck and inviting pool area, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection from the dining room.

To achieve the open, airy feeling they had always wanted, we also removed the wall separating the kitchen from the living room. Handmade Spanish tiles were carefully selected and incorporated throughout the new spaces, helping to preserve the authentic character of the original architecture while giving everything a fresh, vibrant feel.

The timing could not have been more perfect — we wrapped up the project just a week before their daughter’s much-anticipated graduation party. Hosting the celebration at home, in their gorgeous new space, was the perfect way to mark the occasion. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to help Mike and Amy bring their dream to life — creating a home filled with beauty, warmth, and lasting memories.
