When Laura purchased her beautiful home in Boulder, CO's historic Chautauqua neighborhood more than a decade ago, one room always felt out of sync. The guest bathroom was a time capsule from another era, complete with dated tile, aging built-in cabinetry, a cramped bathtub, and finishes that hadn't changed since the 1970s. While the bathroom was perfectly functional, it never felt inviting. After retiring, Laura decided it was finally time to create the bathroom she'd been imagining for years.

The project began with a complete gut renovation. The original tub and shower were removed, outdated cabinetry was demolished, and the entire room was reconfigured to improve both flow and functionality. While Laura initially worked with a designer to establish the basic layout, many of the final refinements happened during the remodeling process under our contractor’s experienced oversight, such as rotating the shower entrance so that the faucets could be controlled before stepping inside; a small detail that could have easily been overlooked, and an uncomfortable reality Laura would have lived with for years to come.

Designed to feel like a retreat, the luxury in this bathroom goes deeper than its elegant appearance. The shower is outfitted with three separate showerheads, including an overhead rain shower and handheld fixture. The handheld showerhead is strategically placed beside a comfortable Taj Quartz shower bench. A built- in tiled wall niche with a glass shelf adds convenient shower storage. Radiant heated tile floors were installed, conveniently controlled by a wall-mounted smart thermostat, and the toilet was upgraded with a heated seat. The oversize LED mirror is dimmable and the color temperature can be touch-adjusted, which provides a range of lighting for everyday routine and evening ambiance.

Storage was another priority. The remodel replaced aging built-ins with a custom blue vanity, matching linen storage cabinet, and open shelving to maximize organization while keeping the room feeling bright and uncluttered.

These thoughtful details transformed the bathroom from simply beautiful into a space that's genuinely enjoyable to use every day. Now what once was a dated guest bathroom has become one of the home’s standout spaces. The final result creates a bathroom that feels elegant without being overdone. As Laura describes it, the biggest change isn’t what the bathroom looks like- it’s how it feels.
